Understanding the “Do Not Ship After” date for products with Expiry date

What is a “Do Not Ship After” date?

The “Do Not Ship After” date is a rule that defines the last day a product with an expiry date can be shipped before it becomes too close to its expiration. This ensures that your customers never receive products that are nearing their expiry date.

Why is this relevant?

  • Protects your reputation: Prevents nearly expired items from reaching your end-customers.
  • Saves time: No more manual updates or checks before shipping—rules are applied automatically.
  • Ensures consistency: Every SKU with an expiry date is managed with the same reliable process.
  • Improves customer experience: Guarantees that your customers always receive products with sufficient shelf life.

What is the default setting?

For all SKUs with an expiry date, byrd automatically applies a default “Do Not Ship After” date of 2 weeks before expiry.
This means:

  • Any SKU with an expiry date but no specific shipping rule will automatically follow the 2-week rule.
  • For new SKUs, the same default setting will be applied, unless other rules are agreed with you.

Can I set different rules?

Yes! You have full flexibility. If the 2-week default doesn’t fit your needs, you can:

  • Adjust the default period (e.g., 3 weeks, 1 month, or any timeframe that suits your products).
  • Define SKU-specific rules for certain products.

Once set up, these rules will apply automatically to every new delivery of that SKU.
