Self Pick-up Process for B2B Shipments

In cases where byrd cannot provide transportation (e.g. pallet shipments outside the EU), you can organize the transport yourself.
Here’s how to ensure a smooth process for self-pickup.

Important note: If you choose self-pickup, you are responsible for organizing and booking the transport.
Therefore, self-pickup is currently excluded from the standard SLAs.

1. Select “Self Pickup” as the shipping option

  • Manual selection: When you manually create a B2B shipment, you can select “Self pickup” as the shipping option.

  • Only byrd standard: Please make sure “byrd standard” is selected, as self-pickup is not possible for Amazon shipments.

  • Parcel and pallet shipments: You can choose self-pickup for both parcel and pallet shipments.

  • Order labeling: Orders created as self-pickup are clearly marked in the byrd dashboard.

When creating an order for self-pickup, an information banner will be displayed showing the warehouse processing time and the estimated time until the shipment can be picked up.
Since the shipment is marked as self-pickup, uploading shipping labels is not possible initially. It only becomes available once you receive the notification that the shipment has been packed.

2. Release your self-pickup order & select your warehouse

  • Manual release: Release the self-pickup order manually via your dashboard.

  • Address validation: Address validation is skipped for self-pickup shipments (if address validation is generally activated).

  • Warehouse selection: If you store goods in multiple byrd warehouses, select manually from which warehouse you want the shipment to be picked up.

3. Receive confirmation of processing and schedule the pickup

  • Warehouse processing: Once the warehouse has packed the shipment, it will be marked in your dashboard as “Label required” and “Action required.” You’ll receive a notification when this happens (see screenshot). In addition, you’ll receive a daily email at 8:00 a.m. summarizing all shipments requiring your action.

  • Important note:
Each shipping unit must have its own label.
That means if a shipment consists of several parcels, a separate shipping label must be uploaded for each parcel.

To upload the shipping labels, go to the Units tab and click the three dots next to each unit.
When you select Upload shipping label, a pop-up window will appear where you can enter:

  • the carrier information
  • the carrier’s pickup date
  • the carrier’s tracking number and tracking link

Complete pickup details

  • Pickup by: Mandatory field. If no carrier is coming and you plan to pick up the order yourself, please select “Self pickup.”

  • Pickup date: Mandatory field. Please note that only one common pickup date is allowed for all units within a shipment.

  • Tracking number and link: Mandatory field, except if you collect the shipment yourself or if none of the available carriers apply.

  • Shipping label upload: Mandatory field, except when “Self pickup” is selected.

5. Additional information on process and potential extra costs

  • Processing time:
Once the warehouse has printed the shipping labels and attached them to the shipment, the order status changes to “Waiting for pickup.”
Generally, self-pickup shipments are ready for collection within 48 hours from the start of warehouse processing, provided that the order was released before 12:00 p.m. and all required information/documents for self-pickup were submitted without delay.
After pickup, the warehouse uploads the signed pickup confirmation. At this point, the shipment moves to the final status “Shipped.”

  • Additional costs:
If the self-pickup does not occur within 72 hours, extra costs may apply.
